New York City- Center of the (advertising) Universe

Having just been in New York a week ago, for the Thanksgiving Holiday, I am writing my first hand experience at surviving all the advertising that occurs in NYC! I thought LA was bad, moving from Florida, but NYC somehow tops the charts of the advertising world.

So with all the advertisements on taxis, billboards (most of which are electronic), and buildings, I found myself not wanting any single thing advertised to me. I found myself ignoring them, rather than looking to see what they were about. I think the advertisements in NYC give an opposite effect of what is supposed to happen, which is you consuming the product advertised.

I saw never really saw an advertisment, I just saw an empty space I didn’t care about. So do advertisers know that by advertiseing to much, they are creating the wrong reaction? By putting one billboard, out of the 100 that line Time Square, do they know it is a waste of money? Do they know I just see them all the advertisments as one entity that is blended into the location, rather than standing out making me want to seek the product?

So NYC, center of the universe, TAKE DOWN YOUR!
